I've been shortlisted for YNOT Festival 2017!
Earlier this year, I took the plunge and applied for the chance to play at Derbyshire's YNOT festival. It's arguably one of the biggest music-related events in my local area, and it seems to be growing rapidly year on year after its inaugural event in 2006. What was once mainly populated by local, unsigned acts now attracts global talent.
To stay true to their roots however, each year YNOT dedicates a selected number of slots to smaller acts. Over 900 bands and artists applied to play at this year's festival, including me — one of the only people who stupidly wrote a 1st person bio and undersold myself. I thought I had no chance to progress to the next stage.
The thing is, though... I got an e-mail the other day from YNOT to say i'd made the final shortlist. I was as shocked as you are. Little emzae alongside people I recognise from their airplay on Radio 1?! There is a good chance I won't make it past the final stage, which combines a judging panel and a public vote, but just in case you'd like to help me try...
You can vote for me by visiting http://bandapp.ynotfestivals.co.uk/bands and selecting my picture in the Derbyshire section. When you have selected me, please click "Vote for us!". I've no idea what happens after that as I haven't voted for myself, believe it or not. I've already been overwhelmed by the number of people who have taken the time to support me in my quest to bring my strange pop to YNOT, and each and every vote is appreciated.
I'd also like to take this moment to wish the very best of luck to all other shortlisted acts, especially those from the local area that I am lucky to be friends with. Whoever makes the line-up, I know it'll be a great one!
